As Yiddish has had a renaissance, so, too, is Ladino having its moment. But we need to seize the opportunity before it is too late.
In this season when New York’s streets are packed with people disguised as ghosts and other frightening things YIVO presented a “Haunted Sukkah,” a haunted house with a Yiddish twist.
Participants at this year’s Yiddish Week played sports, made art and learned how to milk goats - all in Yiddish.
A new CD has been released, “Songs with a Jewish Flavor” (with 12 Songs), a joint project of the talented musicians Rita and Naum Koyfman, the writer Boris Sandler, and the world famous pianist Evgeny Kissin.
At the 18th year of Klezkanada participants danced, sang and enjoyed the Yiddish tongue.

An animated Yiddish version of a famous Russian song made popular by Leonid and Edith Utyosov. Under the auspices of the “Forverts” a new CD is in preparation called “Lider mit a yidishn tam” — “Songs with A Jewish Flavor”. This CD will include new songs, composed by the singer and composer Rita Koyfman as well as several songs by the famous Russian composers, Isaak Dunayevsky and Nikita Bogoslovsky. The words to these songs were written by Boris Sandler. The famous pianist, Evgeny Kissin, also participated in the project and translated one of the Russian songs into Yiddish. All the songs were performed and arranged by Rita and Naum Koyfman.
On June 26th, 2013, the Yiddish cultural world celebrated the poet and painter Yonia Fain’s 100th birthday. Program hosted by Itzik Gottesman
