The Forward’s Youth Writing Contest deadline has been extended

The Forward’s Youth Writing Contest has already is inspiring middle and high school students across the country to reflect on the topic of freedom. Competing for a $180 prize in three age categories, our contestants have written short stories, poems and essays, some of which we have already published here. But, given that we are in the midst of Passover season with much of the world under lockdown, some of our young writers need a little more time to complete their entries. That’s why we’re extending our deadline to May 1. Please send your essays, stories and poems (1,000 words or less) about “What It Means To Be Free” to essays@forward.com. You can find our contest guidelines here.

A message from our CEO & publisher Rachel Fishman Feddersen

I hope you appreciated this article. Before you go, I’d like to ask you to please support the Forward’s award-winning, nonprofit journalism during this critical time.

Now more than ever, American Jews need independent news they can trust, with reporting driven by truth, not ideology. We serve you, not any ideological agenda.

At a time when other newsrooms are closing or cutting back, the Forward has removed its paywall and invested additional resources to report on the ground from Israel and around the U.S. on the impact of the war, rising antisemitism and the protests on college campuses.

Readers like you make it all possible. Support our work by becoming a Forward Member and connect with our journalism and your community.
