Another Centrist Dem Cozies Up to Coal
Jonathan Miller – boychick candidate for governor of Kentucky – made nice with his state’s coal lobby at a press conference yesterday. Miller called for new methods to remediate the mountaintop removal associated with mining – that is, put the mountains back afterwards – rather than a halt to the practice, which involves releasing tons of sediments into waterways.
Kind of reminds me of another centrist Democrat from a coal-heavy state (that would be Barack Obama), who is paying lip service to global warming as he runs for president, but doesn’t want to alienate his big coal supporters. Obama is currently sponsoring a bill that would promote coal-to-liquid technology.
