Betzy Lynch, CEO of Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center JACOBS FAMILY CAMPUS will interview Jodi followed by updates and discussion of why supporting quality, independent media is so important, the role of Jewish journalism during this difficult time and updates from the ground in Israel about emerging needs and how they are being addressed by the Jewish Federation Sha’ar HaNegev Emergency Fund and the Impact Cubed Grassroots Israel Emergency Initiative.
As we witness the consequences of the range of media’s representation of the war, this is a unique opportunity to understand the way media engages for the sake of common good.
Desserts and refreshments will be available.
Jodi Rudoren
Forward editor-in-chief and former New York Times Jerusalem bureau chief
Jodi is a premier expert on Israel and the American Jewish community. As the Jerusalem bureau chief of the New York Times, Jodi led coverage of two previous wars in Gaza. She was on the ground for the entirety of the eight-day conflict in 2012, and covered both sides extensively during the summer-long 2014 war. Among the scores of stories she wrote then was this one about the tunnels Hamas dug into Israel — and a photo of her reporting that story was used by the Times to promote its on-the-ground reporting.
Since 2019, Jodi has been editor-in-chief of the Forward, the leading Jewish news organization in the U.S., and can speak authoritatively about American Jewish attitudes on Israel. She is a frequent writer and speaker on Israel, the Palestinian conflict and all things about American Jews, and regularly serves as a panelist and moderator for discussions with Israeli and American diplomats and experts.
A summary of Jodi’s reporting on the war.
