SIMCHAT TORAH SHTICK
Looking for a fun way to mark Simchat Torah? The completion of the annual Torah-reading cycle is being celebrated in two synagogue performances by Yiddishe Cup, a Cleveland-based klezmer band. Audiences are invited to dance along with the band’s “shtickmeister,” klezmer dancer Daniel Ducoff. The band comprises Bert Stratton on clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax and harmonica; Irwin Weinberger on lead vocals, guitar, mandolin, flute and alto sax; Steve Ostrow on trombone, trumpet, violin, tsimbl and classical guitar; Alan Douglass on keyboards, back-up vocals, string bass, theremin and cello, and Dan Friedman on drums and percussion. Yiddishe Cup’s albums include 1997’s “Klezmerized” and 1999’s “Yiddfellas.”
