Letter | Jews Who Support Trump Are A Shanda

Dear Editor:

I am writing in response to Rabbi Eliezer Brand’s recent article), “The Real Reason Orthodox Jews Love Trump (Hint: It’s Not Israel).”

I am a humanistic, secular Jew, a refugee from Nazi Germany, a Holocaust survivor, an attorney, and a lifelong fighter for the rights of women. My complaint is not with regard to the reason Orthodox Jews love Trump; it is with regard to the fact that they do.

Trump is a despicable human being without a single redeeming quality. He is a bully and a liar; he mocks people with disabilities; he gropes and attacks women — both sexually and verbally; he has been unfaithful to all his wives; he is unqualified for the responsibilities of president and selects unqualified people as judges and cabinet members; he does nothing about the looming threat of climate change in the U.S. and the world; he opposes immigrants coming to our country even though his own ancestors came here as immigrants; he cares not a whit for this country but only for his own personal interests — the list is endless.

The Jews who support Trump, much like Evangelicals, have abandoned the moral principles that they espouse to to do so. The willingness of those Jews who support Trump to turn a blind eye to Trump’s derelictions to further their own interests is a shanda.

Sincerely,

Sonia Pressman Fuentes
