Newsletter Blurs Face of Itamar Murder Victim
A religious-Zionist Jewish studies center this week published a photograph of the members of the Fogel family who were murdered last March in the settlement of Itamar, but blurred the face of the mother for modesty reasons.
The photograph was part of an advertisement published in Machon Meir’s weekly bulletin “In love and faith”, which is distributed in hundreds of synagogues throughout Israel.

The bulletin’s policy forbids publishing pictures of women, and did not make an exception in the case of Ruth Fogel, who was murdered along with her husband and three of her children by Palestinian youths last year.
Ruth Fogel’s picture was featured in all the weekly religious bulletins recently to mark 11 months to the Itamar murders.
The bulletin’s staff and contributors are senior rabbis in the national-religious community that are seen as moderate figures such as Rabbi Shlomo Aviner, who is one of the leaders of Israel’s religious Zionist movement.
