Leiby Kletzky’s Family Raises More Than $100,000 for Memorial Fund
Leiby Kletzky’s grieving relatives set up a memorial website in the slain Brooklyn boy’s honor to raise money for needy children, and raised more than $100,000 on the first day.
The site, which features adorable pictures of the youngster, drew more than 3,000 visitors offering messages of condolences in its first hours.
“Leiby will never do all the acts of charity and kindness he would have done had he been granted more years to live,” the site stated. “But Leiby’s memory can and will live on through the Leiby Kletzky Memorial Fund established by his grieving parents and sisters.”
The family aims to raise $1 million through the site, www.leibykletzkymemorialfund.com. The fund is also on facebook.
The fund was up to $143,000 Friday morning.
The online memorial went up the day after Levi Aron, 35, was indicted on murder charges in the boy’s slaying.
An autopsy report revealed Kletzky, 8, was drugged with pain-killers and other prescription pills before being smothered.
He was snatched off the street as he walked home from camp alone for the first time in Boro Park on July 11. His dismembered remains were found two days later.
Aron’s lawyers have suggested he is insane, but legal experts say the evidence about the pills may show that the killer knew what he was doing.
