Jerry Falwell: Hillary is the Devil (Just Kidding!)
Nearly 2,000 Christian activists attended the Values Voters Summit in Washington, D.C. this weekend, an extended pep rally organized by Focus on the Family and other organizations on the religious right. The event, and several others like it around the country, are intended to motivate a key segment of the Republican base in advance of the November elections.
Here’s the Monday morning highlight reel:
Presidential hopefuls make the rounds, including Mormon Mitt Romney.
Focus on the Family’s James Dobson is down on the Republicans.
Rev. Jerry Falwell compares Hillary Clinton to the devil … just kidding …
”I certainly hope that Hillary is the candidate,” Falwell reportedly said at a breakfast session on Friday. ”I hope she’s the candidate, because nothing will energize my (constituency) like Hillary Clinton,” he said. ”If Lucifer ran, he wouldn’t.”
To which Clinton press secretary Philippe Reines responded, ”Working for someone who believes in the Golden Rule, we’re not going to engage in such vitriolic discourse – but it seems that a new low has been reached in demonizing political opponents.”

In this age of misinformation, our work is needed like never before. We report on the news that matters most to American Jews, driven by truth, not ideology.
At a time when newsrooms are closing or cutting back, the Forward has removed its paywall. That means for the first time in our 126-year history, Forward journalism is free to everyone, everywhere. With an ongoing war, rising antisemitism, and a flood of disinformation that may affect the upcoming election, we believe that free and open access to Jewish journalism is imperative.
Readers like you make it all possible. Right now, we’re in the middle of our Passover Pledge Drive and we still need 300 people to step up and make a gift to sustain our trustworthy, independent journalism.
