Not Your Average Peep Show: An Israeli Ending To New York Fashion Week
Inbal Dror, an Israeli designer whose collections range from regal Bridal gowns to sultry evening wear, ended New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2017 at a private showing which included a window display hosted by Dorinda Medley of Bravo’s The Real House Wives of New York City, John Mahdessian, owner of Madame Paulette and The Tahor Group, whose owners are fashion marketers and Jewish activists.
The window exhibits included live models and many dresses made exclusively for celebrity fans of the designer. One gown, made famous as worn by Beyoncé, sold on the spot for an undisclosed sum, but was estimated to be a five figure amount. Many of the designs emphasized a soft palette of ivory, vanilla, champagne and charcoal blush hues that served as a canvas for exquisite detailing. This season, Dror incorporated the finest European fabrics, from layers of silk tulle and delicate matte sequins to unexpected laser cutouts.
Inbal Dror is a renowned bridal designer from Israel, who trained at the prestigious Shenkar Fashion Academy in her home country and also apprenticed in Milan. Known for body-conscious dresses in beautifully romantic fabrics, the designer only launched her official bridal line several seasons, and is already quickly gaining steam, with her dresses available in bridal salons worldwide, showcased in the most respected boutiques and trunk sales.
Dror, whose work has appeared in Vogue told Brides magazine, “I love it when the bride integrates with the dress, and they become one, like a second skin. Our bride is confident; sometimes quietly confident, and she is always breathtaking,” the designer explained.
Beyonce’s dress was the singer’s choice worn at The American Music Awards and as part of the featured wardrobe for her World Formation Tour. In addition, models featured gowns worn by the elite of New York City and the Hamptons. The installation paid tribute to the closing of NYFW Week and the theme of and Love. Dorinda Medley was wearing a custom made Inbal Dror gown for the evening. Madame Paulette’s “Fashion Ambulance” was on location to aid any fashion emergencies from the guests. Madame Paulette is the luxury dry cleaning establishment to haute couture designer labels such as Monique Lhuillier, Oscar de la Renta, Christian Dior and many others. “It’s Anna Wintour’s destination for preserving her magnificent and important wardrobe,” says John Mahdessian. Brides have already begun to clean and preserve Inbal Dror wedding gowns, after having walked down the aisle and danced the night away.
Several Attendees included stars from New York based television shows from the Bravo and Food Channel networks, representatives from the Consulate General of Israel, Dani Dayan’s offices and socialites seen around town at the most prestigious fundraisers and social gatherings.
Tobi Ruberstein and Nancy Torres Kaufman, the night’s event planners and owners of the Tahor Group, told the Forward, “The seed of creativity seems to flourish at its best under the springs of struggle, its bloom is the most creative innovation and design. We want to highlight the beauty and talent of Israeli designers through the lenses of their creative geniuses. In all Dror is a shining example with her bridal and evening wear collections.”
