It’s the first night of Hanukkah, but Mama tells Rachel they won’t be having company — or making latkes — until next week. No company? No latkes? Rachel can’t wait! She goes next door to Mrs. Greenberg’s house, and the latke-making operation commences, but not quite as planned. As potatoes, then eggs, then flour find their way onto the floor, Rachel finds herself saying “Oops!” while Mrs. Greenberg says, “Oy!” Soon the mess is so big, poor Mrs. Greenberg needs a break. Just then, Mama and Papa return to find the mushy disaster. Everyone pitches in, and soon they are sitting around with warm food and glowing candles. “Now this feels like Hanukkah,” Rachel says, smiling.
