The catastrophe of October 7, 2023, not only left hundreds of Israeli families bereft and the nation shaken. It sent a seismic shock through world Jewry.
Even as Jews from across the planet glued themselves to the news and rushed money to Israel, long-standing assumptions were shaken; new divisions appeared and old ones disappeared; and our international community was left with the challenge of reassessing the meaning of peoplehood, the depth of antisemitism, the bedrock that is Zionism, the vitality of diaspora institutions and our collective future.
Nine of our leading writers, thinkers and activists join us for a conversation with Rabbi David Wolpe about what they believe our community needs most at this critical moment, from the sharpening of our focus on Israel to new ways to tackle antisemitism from all sides, the promotion of Jewish pride, consensus-building and ancient wisdom – and how their views have and have not shifted since the outbreak of Israel’s war with Hamas.
The panelists are all contributors to David Hazony’s new book, Jewish Priorities: Sixty-Five Proposals for the Future of Our People.
Panelists include:
Bret Stephens, Pulitzer Prize–winning New York Times columnist and editor-in-chief of Sapir
Dara Horn, award-winning author of six books, including People Love Dead Jews
Einat Wilf, former member of the Israeli Knesset and author of We Should All Be Zionists
Armin Rosen, staff writer at Tablet magazine
Ruby Namdar, Israeli-American author, winner of the Sapir Prize for The Ruined House
Roya Hakakian, poet, author and fellow at Yale, who grew up in post-revolutionary Iran
Adam Bellow, publisher of Wicked Son books and author of In Praise of Nepotism
Jodi Rudoren, editor-in-chief of the Forward and former Jerusalem Bureau Chief of The New York Times
