Arno Rosenfeld, the Forward’s enterprise reporter covering antisemitism, discusses the contested definition of antisemitism and how different elements of the Jewish community are seeking to address the problem. Debates over how severe of a problem contemporary antisemitism is, and where to draw the line between antisemitism and anti-Zionism, have split Jewish organizations and scrambled what was once a surefire consensus: that we were all on the same page when it came to keeping Jews safe.
Rosenfeld has reported from the frontlines of these battles, from the Charlottesville courtroom where white supremacists were on trial for organizing a deadly rally, to the campus of George Washington University, which has alternately been described as a haven for Jewish students and a hotbed of antisemitism. He will explain how antisemitism became a pressing concern for American Jews and dissect the contrasting responses from the Jewish establishment and progressive organizations.
