Campaign Marks Argentina Bombing at 20
The Israeli Embassy in Argentina is launching a public campaign about survivors of the 1992 attack there.
“Today I turn 20” will feature advertisements starting next week in the media, as well as on subways and in the streets.
The campaign is being produced by the ad agency BasevichCrea with photography by Hernan Churba. Both are donating their fees.
“The idea of the campaign is to focus on life,” Javier Basevich, the agency’s owner, told JTA. “We show cases of people who could have died on this March 17th, but they still live and they remember this special day. We also remember.”
March 17 marks the 20th anniversary of the car bombing of the Buenos Aires embassy that killed 29 and injured 242. Iran is believed to be behind the bombing, but no one has been brought to justice in the case.
The main ceremony will be held on March 16 because the actual day of the anniversary falls on Shabbat. Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon will be in Buenos Aires to remember and ask for justice. Also, the Israeli ambassador at the time of the attack, Itzhak Shefi, will be at Arroyo and Suipacha streets, where the embassy was located.
On March 18, the Israeli Embassy in Argentina will sponsor a free “Concert of Life” at Palermo Park featuring 10 Argentinean pop and rock bands. Diego Melamed, a correspondent for JTA, will serve as the host.
