IAEA Chief: Deal Reached To Inspect Iran’s Nukes
The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Yukiya Amano, said Tuesday that he had reached a deal with Iran to allow inspectors to further investigate the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program. Amano, who had been in Tehran meeting with Iranian officials, said that the agreement would be signed “quite soon,” according to wire reports.
Under the deal, the IAEA will have increased access to Iran’s nuclear sites.
The announcement comes one day before representatives of six world powers are set to meet in Baghdad with Iranian chief nuclear negotiator, Saeed Jalili. It comes one day after the U.S. Senate unanimously approved new economic sanctions targeting Iranian oil.
