Ed Koch Hospitalized With Anemia

Edward I. Koch, the former three-term mayor of New York City, was hospitalized on Tuesday for anemia, the New York Times reported.

Koch, 87, has been “extraordinarily weak” recently, the paper quoted George Arzt, his former press secretary and longtime friend as saying.

“He used to eat like a horse, and now he just pushes the food around his plate,” Arzt told the Times.

Koch, who previously suffered a stroke and a heart attack, is expected to be hospitalized for a few days.

The ex-mayor, who served 12 years in Gracie Mansion, has vowed to return to campaign for President Barack Obama’s reelection this fall.
