Schneiderman Files Brief Against Ohio’s Anti-Planned Parenthood Law

New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman filed a friend-of-the-court brief Thursday in support of Planned Parenthood’s effort to kill an Ohio law denying public funding to abortion providers.
Fifteen other state attorney generals joined Schneiderman’s brief, filed with the U.S. Court of Appeal for the Sixth Circuit.
“We won’t stand by while a woman’s fundamental right to make her own reproductive health choices is under siege,” Schneiderman said in a statement.
The Ohio law will bar the state from making public health grants to healthcare providers who preform abortions. Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio has sued to block the law’s implementation.
“Health care providers should not have to choose between protecting a woman’s right to reproductive health care, and providing other vital public health services – yet that’s exactly what the Ohio state law, and so many other regressive measures around the country, seek to do,” Schneiderman said.
