Brooklyn Synagogue Caretaker Beaten Bloody And Robbed of $300

A caretaker at a Brooklyn synagogue was beaten and robbed early Sunday morning, sending him to the hospital.

Two men entered the Beis Menachem Mendel synagogue in the Midwood neighborhood through a broken window before dawn and woke the sleeping 53-year-old caretaker, police said.

They beat the worker with a metal garden tool, leaving him bloody. They made off with a laptop, cellphone, money from the tzedakah box, and the victim’s wallet, which contained around $300.

The victim, who was conscious but had a broken nose and bloodied face, was discovered when worshipers arrived for morning prayers at around 7:30.

“To happen during the holy days of Passover … is especially disturbing,” City Councilman David Greenfield told local radio station 1010 WINS. Greenfield offered a $1,000 reward for information related to the case.

This is the second time this year that the synagogue has been targeted by robbers.
