Jewish Lawmaker Slam Trump For Firing Comey — Demand Special Prosecutor
Top Jewish lawmakers slammed President Trump for abruptly firing FBI Director James Comey — and demanded he appoint a special prosecutor to investigate allegations of Russian meddling in the presidential election.
Sen. Chuck Schumer said he warned Trump not to dump Comey and said Americans would not accept a Trump-appointed official to oversee the explosive Russia probe.
An independent investigation into Moscow’s role in the election “is now the only way to go to restore the American people’s faith,” Schumer said.
Sen. Diane Feinstein, the senior Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, on Tuesday said that the FBI director who would replace the fired James Comey, “must be strong and independent.”
She vowed to mount a robust confirmation hearing for any Trump appointee.
Rep. Jerrold Nadler warned against being “distracted” by Trump’s explanation that he fired Comey over misstatements to Congress about the Hillary Clinton email probe. The Manhattan Democrat said the firing was intended to stifle an independent investigation of Russian interference and ties to Trump.
Don’t be fooled, this is about Comey investigating #TrumpRussia. Trump’s justification is nothing but pretext to stop investigation. https://t.co/Jq7vnVuxIf
