Lena Dunham, Jenny Slate And About A Million Other Celebrities Defend Planned Parenthood

The nice thing about being a celebrity is that it takes relatively little effort to effect change. Whereas a retweet or imploring Facebook post issued by one of us “normals” will have little to no impact on anyone, a celebrity throwing his or her name behind a cause has real influence and reach.
So it’s no surprise that Planned Parenthood thought it might be a good strategy to produce a video chock-full of your favorite celebrities to tell you (yes, YOU!) to call your senators and ask them not to defund Planned Parenthood!
Lena Dunham, Jenny Slate, Jon Hamm, and Jennifer Lawrence are just a few of the big name stars participating in the call to action.
The video was created in response to the Republicans’ impending healthcare bill, which aims to take away Medicaid funds from Planned Parenthood. To fully understand how devastating this would be, consider that half of Planned Parenthood’s patients rely on Medicaid to meet their healthcare costs.

This is a moment of great uncertainty. Here’s what you can do about it.
We hope you appreciated this article. Before you go, we’d like to ask you to please support the Forward’s independent Jewish news this Passover.
This is a moment of great uncertainty for the news media, for the Jewish people, and for our sacred democracy. It is a time of confusion and declining trust in public institutions. An era in which we need humans to report facts, conduct investigations that hold power to account, tell stories that matter and share honest discourse on all that divides us.
With no paywall or subscriptions, the Forward is entirely supported by readers like you. Every dollar you give this Passover is invested in the future of the Forward — and telling the American Jewish story fully and fairly.
The Forward doesn’t rely on funding from institutions like governments or your local Jewish federation. There are thousands of readers like you who give us $18 or $36 or $100 each month or year.
