President Trump’s longtime personal attorney, Michael Cohen, owes New York nearly $40,000 in unpaid taxes, the Daily News reported Tuesday.
Cohen and his wife own a number of New York City taxi medallions. The unpaid taxes are reportedly fees that taxi medallion owners are supposed to hand over to the state’s Department of Transportation.
Cohen told Talking Points Memo that the taxes were the responsibility of the management company that operates the taxi medallions. Taxi kingpin Evgeny Friedman manages Cohen’s medallions; he was recently charges with stealing $5 million of the same fees.
Cohen is a longtime Trump ally and recently named finance chair of the Republican National Committee.
