Details on the charges against Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu unveiled with much fanfare late last month will not be released until after the April parliamentary elections.
Israeli Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit agreed on Monday not to turn over evidence in the case until after the elections, the Associated Press reported.
“After weighing their positions, and taking into account the overall circumstances of the case, the attorney general decided to grant the request of the prime minister’s representatives to delay the release of the investigation materials in the cases related to the prime minister until after the election date,” Mandelblit’s office said, according to the Israeli news site ynet.
Netanyahu has yet to be formally charged, though Mandelblit said in late February that he intended to file charges. Now those formal charges will not be filed until after the election.
