How Did Hillary Play at AIPAC?
Jennifer Siegel has an article up about Senator Hillary Clinton’s speech to Aipac activists in New York last night. She threw out some red meat about the dangers posed by Iran, but also argued that the Bush administration was wrong not to engage Iran. She’ll have more next week about the speech and the reaction of the crowd. According to Maggie Haberman’s dispatch in the New York Post, Clinton’s remarks drew little applause. Haberman reported that several attendees were turned off, with one saying that pro-Israel crowd wanted to hear tougher rhetoric. It’s unclear from the article if the critics were Republicans who would never consider backing Hillary (not so interesting) or Democrats looking for a sufficiently pro-Israel horse to ride in 2008 (more interesting).
