Lieberman’s Shabbos Vote
Senate Republicans – and now-Independent Joseph Lieberman – succeeded in blocking a vote on a non-binding anti-surge resolution on Saturday. Democrats fell just four votes short of the 60 needed to end debate. (Presidential contenders Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama took a break from campaigning to show up for the vote; McCain did not.)
Since Lieberman, an Orthodox Jew, does not typically work on Saturdays, his decision to show up for the vote has, not surprisingly, raised the hackles of liberals on sites like Daily Kos. (In particular, check out the comments section to see a running, and at times edgy, debate about the relevance of Lieberman’s faith.)
Here’s Lieberman’s statement about the vote.
