Scene Gets Grim at Hillary Clinton Election Night Event
The mood is getting strange at Hillary Clinton’s election night party at the Jacob Javits Center, as what was once an easy win seems at risk of slipping away.
Clinton supporters are drinking beer in disconsolate groups in the food court in the conference centers’ bowels. As the singer Katy Perry left the stage, the mood of the crowd didn’t match the pop tune blasting over the speakers.
“I’m getting deported in 5, 4, 3, 2….,” one man could be heard telling his friends.
“Trump is a megalomaniac and an idiot and an egotist,” a Hasidic man from Boro Park who would only give his name as Joel told the Forward. “He can nuke Britain if [U.K. Prime Minister Theresa] May will say his hair is not yellow enough.”
Joel said he had just checked flights to Canada. The prices, he said, are shooting up.
Orthodox Jews overwhelmingly support Donald Trump, and Boro Park was expected to vote heavily for the Republican candidate. Joel and a Boro Park friend name Baruch said that they both had family that had voted for Trump.
Joel had only grim things to say about an increasingly-likely Trump victory.
“Some people we put on suicide watch,” he said.
