A Look at the Ladies
In his book “Jewish Heroes & Heroines of America: 150 True Stories of American Jewish Heroism” (Lifetime Books, 1996), Seymour Brody offers biographical sketches of American Jews throughout history who made significant contributions to society. A number of the profiles, accompanied by lively illustrations by Art Seiden, can be seen in six virtual exhibitions presented on Florida Atlantic University Libraries’ Molly S. Fraiberg Judaica Collections Web site, http://www.fau.edu/library/depts/judaica9.htm.
The site’s newest additions, The Jewish Heroines of America exhibits, are divided into two time periods, titled From Colonial Times to World War II and From World War II to the Present. Such luminaries as Rebecca Gratz, Gertrude Berg, Lillian D. Wald, Molly Picon and Gertrude Elion are included in the collection.
