Dissing the Carter Center Part II
The Anti-Defamation League has taken a lead role in the Jewish community’s counter-offensive against Jimmy Carter’s new book, “Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid” (see here and here). Now the organization has released a statement praising the decision of 14 members of the advisory board of the Carter Center to resign.
In their letter to Carter explaing the mass resignation, among other things, the board members noted an ADL statement on white supremacist Web sites that have cheered the former president’s book. Next, the ADL’s regional office issued a statement saying “we are gratified that the work of ADL in monitoring extremist web sites has played a part in exposing the negative impact Carter’s words have had.” The statement noted that several of those resigned were either members or former members of the ADL’s regional board.
So did the ADL play a role in the resignations? “No,” said Shelley Rose, the ADL’s interim regional director. “They did this on their own.”
