Childhood Holocaust Survivors Meet in Poland

More than 300 people who survived the Holocaust as children are meeting in Warsaw – a first for Poland.

The four-day meeting of the 23rd annual conference of the World Federation of Jewish Child Survivors of the Holocaust, which ends Tuesday, marks the first time that the group’s annual conference has been held in Poland, home before World War II to more than 3 million Jews.

Delegates came from some 20 countries. The conference theme was “Remember the past but be happy today.”

The conference included religious services and social events as well as lectures, panel discussions, workshops and a tour of Jewish Warsaw. Topics under discussion included issues of Jewish identity, Holocaust education, property restitution, and the role of Poland in Jewish history and memory. There was also a ceremony honoring righteous gentiles.
