Jewish Day School Pitcher Drafted by Nationals

The Washington Nationals drafted a 2012 graduate of the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Maryland in the Major League Baseball draft.

Max Ungar, 17, played catcher at CESJDS and was drafted by the Nationals in the 36th round of the draft.

The Rockville, Md. campus of CESJDS is named after the owners of the Washington Nationals, Theodore N. and Annette M. Lerner.

In addition to Ungar, North Hollywood, Calif., native Max Fried was drafted by the San Diego Padres with the seventh overall pick in the draft. Fried, who is also Jewish, is a left-handed pitcher who initially committed to play for the UCLA Bruins baseball team.
