Orthodox Rabbi Dies Using Sea as Mikveh
A haredi Orthodox rabbi from London died while ritually immersing himself in the sea while on vacation in Wales.
Rabbi Dov Berish Englander, 47, was using the sea as a mikvah to perform his daily ritual immersion when he drowned on Aug. 2, the Jewish Chronicle reported.
A guest at a nearby hotel called emergency services after seeing the rabbi struggling in the water, the Daily Mail reported.
A lifeboat crew pulled him from the water and paramedics tried but failed to resuscitate him.
The Jewish Chronicle said he was “highly respected for his level of religious knowledge and his charitable work.”
