Mugged During Sandy: ‘Last Thing I Expected’
Heartless thugs reportedly beat and robbed a Jewish man in Brooklyn on Monday night, just as Hurricane Sandy was pounding New York.
The web site CrownHeights.info posted a video showing the man identified by the Daily News as Jeremy Furchtgott walking down a street when he is tripped and then kicked and beaten for about 20 seconds.
Furchtgott, 21, is shown lying on the ground unresponsive for about a minute, before a pedestrian walks by and helps him amid rain and wind from the storm.
“It was the last thing I was expecting,” Furchtgott , who was walking home in the pounding storm, told the News. “I found myself on the ground and first thought that I tripped over a branch. Until I heard someone yell, ‘Give me your phone! Give me your wallet.’”
According to Gothamist, the victim’s wallet containing $40 and his iPhone were stolen in the attack, which apparently took place at 6:48 p.m. at the corner of Albany Ave. and President St.
Police said they are investigating. The assailants are still at large.
City Councilman David Greenfield told the News he will offer a $1,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators.
“It’s shocking. What kind of sick people would attack an individual who is trying to get home during a hurricane?” he asked, according to the News.
