European Networks Purchase Israeli Signing Show ‘Rising Star’
The new Israeli reality show “Rising Star” has been sold to major networks in a number of European countries.
Toro, an Italian production company, on Thursday became the latest to sign up for the singing competition that premiered last month on Israeli television.
“Rising Star” was up for offer last week at MIPCOM, an annual entertainment and festival in Cannes. Along with Italy, the show has been sold to networks in France, Germany, Russia and a Scandinavian company that airs in several countries.
The show allows television viewers to vote live for contestants through the use of a cellphone application. The votes are tallied during a contestant’s performance and determine the final outcome.

With no paywall or subscriptions, the Forward is entirely supported by readers like you. Every dollar you give this Passover is invested in the future of the Forward — and telling the American Jewish story fully and fairly.
The Forward doesn’t rely on funding from institutions like governments or your local Jewish federation. There are thousands of readers like you who give us $18 or $36 or $100 each month or year.
