Hundreds Mourn Those Killed In Pittsburgh During A Moving NYC Havdalah Service

Mir veln zey iberlebn, their signs proclaimed — we will outlive them.

The night of the terrible shooting at Tree of Life Congregation in Pittsburgh, hundreds gathered in Union Square in New York City to mourn.

They conducted a Havdalah service at sunset, which marks the transition between Shabbat and the rest of the week.

As the photographer, Gili Getz, wrote on Facebook, “Last night we mourned, we prayed and we sang. With each other and our allies. It was moving to have leadership from the Muslim community join us in solidarity [to] help support the event, as we hold each other in grief. They are also the target of the same dark forces. We have to show up for each other.”
