Israeli Paper Plans Dozens of Layoffs
One of Israel’s most prominent daily Hebrew newspapers, Yediot Aharonot, will lay off dozens of journalists.
The downsizing comes in an era when newspapers worldwide are experiencing cuts. Yediot’s layoffs will include senior staff members and veterans of the organization, according to Israeli business publication Globes.
The cuts will affect the paper’s health and travel sections, and possibly others.
Along with Maariv and Haaretz, Yediot has been one of the country’s leading daily Hebrew newspapers for decades. The Israeli newspaper landscape changed in 2007 with the launch of Israel Hayom, a free daily financed by American casino mogul Sheldon Adelson.

With no paywall or subscriptions, the Forward is entirely supported by readers like you. Every dollar you give this Passover is invested in the future of the Forward — and telling the American Jewish story fully and fairly.
The Forward doesn’t rely on funding from institutions like governments or your local Jewish federation. There are thousands of readers like you who give us $18 or $36 or $100 each month or year.
