Gary Trauner, the Democratic challenger for Wyoming’s single congressional seat, has narrowly lost the race and now has less than 48 hours to decide whether to seek a recount.
Yesterday, seven-term Republican incumbent Barbara Cubin was certified the winner with 93,336 votes, or 48.3 % of the total. Trauner received 92,324 votes, or 47.8 %, while Libertarian Thomas Rankin received 7,481, or 3.8 %.
For Trauner – who would be the first Jewish representative from Wyoming – this is the latest twist in a rough-and-tumble campaign.
His total fell 79 votes short of triggering an automatic recount, and under state law, Trauner has to request a recount by Friday.
