Jews Get Special Caucus in Nevada GOP Race

Observant Jewish voters will participate in a special caucus in today’s Republican contest in Nevada, where polls show Mitt Romney is far ahead.

The caucus at a Jewish school in Las Vegas will take place after sundown Saturday, long after other caucuses have ended, the New York Times reported.

It will accomodate those who cannot for religious reasons participate with other voters during the day.

Las Vegas has a significant and growing Jewish population, and the Orthodox community is growing rapidly.

Frontrunner Mitt Romney has a gaping lead over rival Newt Gingrich in the state, polls show, despite Las Vegas being the hometown of Gingrich backer Sheldon Adelson.

Politico reported that Gingrich met with Adelson, whose family has given at least $11 million to a Super PAC backing his presidential bid, and other big donors on Friday at a Las Vegas hotel.

After being blown out by Romney in Florida, Gingrich is struggling to stay alive in the GOP contest, which is going through a low-key phase marked by votes in Romney-friendly states.
