Israel’s Envoy Calls on U.N. To Condemn Attacks on Israelis
In his last appearance before the United Nations Security Council, Israel’s Ambassador to the U.N. Ron Prosor called on the body and Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to condemn the recent attacks against Israeli citizens.
“In 72 hours alone, 11 terror attacks have taken place in cities across Israel, and the Security Council stands by in silence,” Prosor said Friday in his last day as Israel’s U.N. envoy. “Israelis are being attacked and murdered in the streets, in their vehicles, and even in their homes, and the U.N. stands by in silence.”
“Palestinian officials continue to use inflammatory rhetoric and dangerous incitement, intensifying this wave of terror against Israeli citizens, and it must stop,” he said.
Prosor called on the Security Council to “denounce these attacks in a clear and unequivocal manner.”
Prosor completed four years as Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations. Former Israeli science, technology and space minister Danny Danon will take up the job on Monday.
Meanwhile, Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian ambassador to the U.N., told the Associated Press that he has asked the Security Council to hold an emergency meeting on Israeli forces actions against Palestinian demonstrators.
He told the AP that the Palestinians want the council to draft a resolution that would condemn “Israeli aggression” and provide “protection” for Palestinians.
