This Month At Novel Jews
On Wednesday, March 8, 2006, the Novel Jews monthly reading series will feature Wayne Hoffman, who will read from his forthcoming debut novel, “Hard” (Carroll & Graf) along with Aaron Hamburger, who will read from his novel, “Faith for Beginners” (Random House, 2005).
Wayne Hoffman, currently managing editor of the Forward, has written for The Washington Post, The Village Voice, The Nation, Billboard and The Advocate, among other publications. His personal essays have appeared in a number of anthologies, including “Mama’s Boy,” “Generation Q” and “Boy Meets Boy.” His debut novel, “Hard,” to be published in April, offers a no-holds-barred look at gay life in New York. From backrooms to newsrooms, the Meatrack to City Hall, “Hard” explores a world where sex is a matter of life or death, and where politics make the strangest bedfellows.
Aaron Hamburger was awarded the Rome Prize by the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the American Academy in Rome for his short-story collection, “The View From Stalin’s Head” (Random House Trade Paperbacks, 2004). His writing has appeared in Nerve, The Village Voice, Salt Hill, Poets and Writers, Publishers Weekly, The Village Voice, Out and Time Out New York. His first novel, “Faith for Beginners” is the story of a Midwestern housewife who brings her rebellious college-age gay son to Israel in the hope that he will transform into a responsible adult, but their trip goes terribly awry.
