Ahmadinejad Vows Iran Won’t Retreat One ‘Iota’
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Wednesday that Iran won’t retreat “an iota” from its nuclear program and he strongly rejected a UN report claiming that Iran is seeking atomic weapons.
Ahmadinejad made the comments on Wednesday in a speech addressing thousands of people in central Iran. The speech was broadcast live on state television.
The IAEA report – citing what it called credible information from member states and elsewhere – listed a series of activities applicable to developing nuclear weapons, such as high explosives testing and the development of an atomic bomb trigger.
Before the release of the report on Tuesday, Ahmadinejad said that Iran would not stop its nuclear work, despite media speculation that Israel was considering military threats.
“We advise the United States and its ally [Israel] to stop and be ashamed of [their threats] and be aware that Iran will not take one step back [from its nuclear program],” Ahmadinejad said in a meeting with students in Tehran.
“Anyone acting against Iran would gravely regret” a military attack, he said according to official news agency IRNA.
