Bank of Israel Issues Anniversary Coin Honoring Yad Vashem’s 60 Years
A commemorative coin to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial museum was issued by the Bank of Israel.
The coin was presented to Yad Vashem Chairman Avner Shalev during a ceremony at Yad Vashem on Sunday night. The new Governor of the Bank of Israel, Dr. Karnit Flug, participated in the ceremony.
The coin, designed by Israeli artist Yossi Lemel, shows on its reverse side a striped shirt bearing the yellow Star of David that Jews were forced to wear. The image shows a Star of David rising in the background, symbolizing the Jewish people’s rebirth with the formation of the state of Israel. The inscription reads “Yad Vashem – 60 Years.”
A law of Israel’s Knesset established Yad Vashem in 1953.
