This Lawyer Represents Ivanka And Jared And Fights Trump Immigration Policies
Even while she represents Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, Washington, D.C. attorney Jamie Gorelick is still fighting the Trump White House’s immigration policies, filing a brief against administration efforts to rein in sanctuary cities.
“Recent reports detailing this chilling effect… demonstrate that, unless enjoined, the Executive Order will continue to undermine cooperation between law enforcement and immigrant communities, and continue to endanger community safety,” she wrote in a filing, in response to an executive order attempting to crack down on localities not collaborating with federal immigration enforcement.
Gorelick, who served as a deputy attorney general in the Clinton administration, has been representing the first daughter and her husband on matters related to government ethics. It’s a tradition in the nation’s capital for the highest-powered players in the city to represent members of both parties, even though Gorelick’s politics diverge from those of the Trump administration.
As the Washington Post has reported, Gorelick’s actions have cost her some social capital within her own circles, as friends criticized her off the record to the newspaper.
