Jewish Inmate Charged With Threatening To Shoot Up Synagogue
A Jewish felon has a new criminal charge for a comment he allegedly made in jail about “shooting up” a synagogue, police said.
Justin M. Cabral, 30, of South Glens Falls, New York, was charged with making a terroristic threat after inmates and corrections officers at the Warren County Jail heard him make a comment about a potential shooting while watching television in the jail on March 22, according to court records obtained by The Post Star newspaper.
Cabral, who is Jewish, allegedly said he would be famous, making headlines that would read, “Man shoots up Synagogue with automatic rifle,” court records show. Police said he made other threats as well, though he did not mention any specific house of worship..
Police said there was no indication he had plans to carry out such an attack. His extensive criminal record bars him from legally owning weapons, and there was no proof he had guns.
Public safety officers contacted local synagogues to let them know about the threat.
Cabral was arraigned in Queensbury Town Court and returned to Warren County Jail without bail, due to the state of his other felonies.
He served in state prison for criminal possession of stolen property convictions in 2006 and felony criminal contempt in 2011.
He was in jail at the time of the threat because he had been sentenced to a year in jail for his role in the theft of $3,500 worth of Pepsi products from a beverage distributor.
