As the number of Chinese tourists visiting Israel rises, Israeli chefs are preparing to give these visitors what they want: Authentic Chinese cuisine, for a taste of home. As Xinhua revealed,, the Israeli tourism industry has organized a series of Chinese cooking masterclasses as a way of keeping Chinese tourists feeling welcome.
113,600 Chinese tourists visited Israel in 2017, after a 41% rise in Chinese tourism in 2016 and a 142% rise in 2015.
Chinese food is complex, often requiring the use of many different cooking techniques, in sharp contrast to the simple, vegetable-forward flavors of Israeli Mediterranean cooking, so these masterclasses are a necessary procedure on the road to establishing Israel as a Chinese cooking outpost.
400 Israeli chefs participated in these masterclasses.
Many Israeli foodies have bemoaned the lack of authentic Chinese food in Israel — well, that’s about to change.
