Finding the Forward 50
In an annual tradition, the staff of this newspaper compiles a list of the 50 people who have made an imprint in the past year on the ways in which American Jews view the world and relate to each other. Last year, for the first time, we invited you, our readers, to send us your nominations for the Forward 50. The results were so interesting and helpful that we are renewing the call for the 2009 edition, which will be published in mid-November.
To participate, e-mail your suggestions to [email protected], and explain why your nominees merit a spot on this estimable list. Also, please include your own name and contact information. The deadline for nominations is Friday, October 16.
I’m also pleased to announce that the Forward’s Web site, www.forward.com, has received two awards of national significance. The Web Marketing Association honored us with a “Standard of Excellence” award in both the “news” and “newspaper” categories for 2009. Our Web site also was named a finalist for the 2009 Online Journalism Awards — a first for us. This prestigious award is overseen by the Online News Association; the winner will be announced October 3.
These awards illustrate the creativity and dedication of so many Forward staff members, but two deserve special mention: Web editor Gabi Birkner and webmaster Aram David.
A message from our Publisher & CEO Rachel Fishman Feddersen
I hope you appreciated this article. Before you go, I’d like to ask you to please support the Forward’s award-winning, nonprofit journalism during this critical time.
We’ve set a goal to raise $260,000 by December 31. That’s an ambitious goal, but one that will give us the resources we need to invest in the high quality news, opinion, analysis and cultural coverage that isn’t available anywhere else.
If you feel inspired to make an impact, now is the time to give something back. Join us as a member at your most generous level.
