Jewish Mothers Get New Tool To Meddle — Online
In an online age, Jewish mothers worried about their children’s romantic prospects have found a new way to intervene.
Rather than simply gifting a JDate membership or forwarding tips to find a match online, more than 5,000 Jewish mothers are using TheJMom.com to network directly in search of their child’s beshert.
The site takes old-fashioned matchmaking into a new era. Mothers create profiles for their children and can browse Jewish singles in their child’s city — and email their parents for more information. If the folks think it’s a match and the kids agree, the daters’ contact information is exchanged so they can meet.
Citing the rise of interfaith marriages, the two-year-old Chicago-based company is launching an ambitious campaign to marry 10,000 Jews in the next ten years.
“The JMom.com is more than just an online dating site,” said Kevin Leland, CEO of TheJmom.com. “It’s part of a movement to ensure the Jewish faith and its traditions live on for many generations to come.”
This is a moment of great uncertainty. Here’s what you can do about it.

This is a moment of great uncertainty for the news media, for the Jewish people, and for our sacred democracy. It is a time of confusion and declining trust in public institutions. An era in which we need humans to report facts, conduct investigations that hold power to account, tell stories that matter and share honest discourse on all that divides us.
With no paywall or subscriptions, the Forward is entirely supported by readers like you. Every dollar you give this Passover is invested in the future of the Forward — and telling the American Jewish story fully and fairly.
The Forward doesn’t rely on funding from institutions like governments or your local Jewish federation. There are thousands of readers like you who give us $18 or $36 or $100 each month or year.
