Song: “Lu Yehi,” Naomi Shemer
I grew up in Israel, where most music was Jewish music, so it naturally resonates deep within me. My love for Jewish music is at my core, and the desire to share my passion fueled my decision to train and work as a cantor.
My song, “Lu Yehi” (“May It Be”), carries a message of a personal prayer and holds positive hopes for our future. Music has always been my inner muse. Songs can inspire intimate connectionS, or create a sense of healing and community. Traditional songs and liturgy deepen our rituals and lift the spirits of listeners and participants. Whether chanting a prayer, singing a Yiddish lullaby or leading a familiar Israeli song, I aspire to connect with each listener, allowing the music in our hearts to be in perfect harmony. — Shiree Kidron
INFLUENCES: I have always drawn inspiration from Cantor Faith Steinsnyder, a true mentor to me. Great Israeli artists like Ofra Haza, Achinoam Nini and Idan Raichel also inspire me. They all found their own ways to infuse Jewish music and prayer with exciting elements from their Yemenite or Ethiopian heritages, building a bridge between diverse cultures and bringing people together in a greater appreciation of Jewish music.

I hope you appreciated this article. Before you go, I’d like to ask you to please support the Forward.
Now more than ever, American Jews need independent news they can trust, with reporting driven by truth, not ideology. We serve you, not any ideological agenda.
At a time when other newsrooms are closing or cutting back, the Forward has removed its paywall and invested additional resources to report on the ground from Israel and around the U.S. on the impact of the war, rising antisemitism and polarized discourse.
This is a great time to support independent Jewish journalism you rely on. Make a Passover gift today!
