The Kohelet Yeshiva High School in Merion Station, Pennsylvania, has received an $8.6 million gift.
The gift announced last week from the Kohelet Foundation includes $7.5 million in unrestricted funds to be used for operational expenses at the school over the next five years, as well as $1.1 million to fund the high school’s new Matmidim Program and its STEM Research Initiative.
The newly launched Matmidim Program is aimed at encouraging students to participate in national Talmud and Bible competitions as well as in Torah-focused summer programs. The STEM Research Initiative offers students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math the opportunity to conduct high-level academic research before they graduate high school.
The Modern Orthodox Jewish high school was founded in 2000 as the as Stern Hebrew High School. The Kohelet Foundation is a private foundation which assists Jewish day schools in the Philadelphia region and nationally.

This is a moment of great uncertainty for the news media, for the Jewish people, and for our sacred democracy. It is a time of confusion and declining trust in public institutions. An era in which we need humans to report facts, conduct investigations that hold power to account, tell stories that matter and share honest discourse on all that divides us.
With no paywall or subscriptions, the Forward is entirely supported by readers like you. Every dollar you give this Passover is invested in the future of the Forward — and telling the American Jewish story fully and fairly.
The Forward doesn’t rely on funding from institutions like governments or your local Jewish federation. There are thousands of readers like you who give us $18 or $36 or $100 each month or year.
