The year is 1985. The U.S. Office of Special Investigations has just filed mysterious charges against Sol Schumann, a Holocaust survivor and observant Jew. Sol’s actions during the war are being called into question, sending his sons Aaron and Michael on a mission to find answers .
“The Action Against Sol Schumann,” a play written by Jeffrey Sweet, is a suspense story dealing with the issue of family history and its influence on who we are as individuals.
“Although the title of the play contains Sol’s name, the story is really about the two sons and the weight of history on their shoulders,” Sweet said. “Do we create ourselves, or are we carrying on a trajectory of what came before us?”
The Jewish Theatre of the South presents the play in its regional premiere. It received a 2001 American Theatre Critics Association award for playwriting.
