Usually congressmen are looking to be quoted when they write letters to administration bigs. But Rep. Chris Van Hollen could have done without conservative columnist Bob Novak’s praise for the lawmaker’s letter to Condoleezza Rice. Van Hollen was really criticizing the White House’s handling of foreign policy, but Novak made it seem like the congressman was attacking Israel. Now Van Hollen, who represents several Jewish-heavy Maryland suburbs of Washington, finds himself doing damage control.
