Emergency Committee Attacks Ron Paul

The neo-conservative Emergency Committee for Israel has put out a new ad blasting Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul as “isolationist and conspiratorial.”

Gary Bauer stars in the new anti-Paul ad from the group that mostly trains its attacks on President Obama, reports the BuzzFeed web site.

“Ron Paul’s conservatism is isolationist and conspiratorial,” Bauer says in the ad, accompanied by a mournful piano. “He is hostile to our allies like Israel.”

The new ad shows that Republican Jewish elites are starting to take seriously the threat posed by Paul. The Texas congressman won more than 20% of the vote in the Iowa caucuses and finished third ahead of Newt Gingrich. Polls say Paul could win a similar share of the vote in New Hampshire’s primary on Tuesday.

Paul opposes foreign aid, including to Israel and says Israel is capable of defending itself Iran without help from the U.S.

He was uninvited from a Republican Jewish Coalition forum last month. But he has stirred controversy when frontruner Mitt Romney and Iowa runner-up Rick Santorum said they would vote for Paul if he is the GOP nominee. Gingrich said he wouldn’t do so.

“Ron Paul is not a Reagan conservative,” Bauer says in the ad. “We can do better.”
